Gaetan Beaudin Page Added To Studio Ceramics Canada Website

Gaetan Beaudin 1967

Gaetan Beaudin 1967

I have added a page on the major Quebec artist, Gaétan Beaudin. His name appears on the resumes of many of today’s major ceramists. His love of the medium, his searching, his experimenting, and his organizing, at a time when resources were few, have been a major influence on the aesthetics and creativity of many of Quebec ceramists today. He was an opinionated but also a most sharing man.

After 1982 the information on his life and work becomes more sparse. There is still more research to be done on this later period. Nonetheless, enjoy reading about his life and thoughts, and viewing a selection of his works

Brendan Tang

Brendan Tang

The page on Brendan Tang and his art is the first page for the 2015 year for Studio Ceramics Canada.

Brendan, an award winner and currently an instructor at Emily Carr University of Art + Design has developed styles and themes that incorporate his interests ranging from traditional Chinese Ming ware to European Rococo Orientalism and decoration, to Japanese Manga and Anime, to Techno-Pop. His work can be provocative or subtle but is always thought provoking.

Look for future pages on artists such as Judy Blake, Stan and Jean Clarke, and John Chalke.

Connie Pike Page Added To the Studio Ceramics Canada Website

Connie Pike Today

Connie PikeToday, Her APA Portrait

A page on Alberta ceramist Connie Pike, https://studioceramicscanada.com/connie-pike/, has been added to the website studioceramicscanada.com. Connie has been a key presence in Alberta since the late 1970s and is still going strong. Enjoy the history, images and text on her extensive production and art work.

This page has been underway for a long, long, long time. With classic timing I connected with Connie last year,  the very day High River, Alberta, was hit by extensive flooding.  Pike studios has well recovered. Connie has been most patient.

Artist Paula Murray Page added to studio ceramics.com website

Paula Murray

Paula Murray

A new page on the Meech Lake artist, Paula Murray, has been added to the website studioceramicscanada.com.

Paula Murray’s porcelain works reflect an inquisitive mind exploring the natural and the spiritual within the individual and within the group. Shells and shorelines, bowls and reeds are her literal subjects, as individuals or in groups. Within these forms she explores the forms and stresses, the cracks and pressures of surface and shape as porcelain and fibreglass are folded, pressed and stained. Her work displays effects ranging from an almost exact individual zoological precision to the subtle metaphorical individuality of surfaces and shapes within a grouping. Subtlety and contemplation are constants.

Stay tuned. More pages are in the works on artists such as Ann Mortimer, Susan Collett, Enid Legros-Wise, Connie Pike, Les Manning, Stan and Jean Clarke and many others. Anyone who has memories or images of these artists they would be willing to share please contact me.

Welcome to a new page on studioceramicscanada.com on the Hansen-Ross Pottery in Fort Qu’ Appelle, Saskatchewan. David Ross  and Folmer Hansen maintained a joint studio focusing on Scandinavian and Leach-inspired art in the middle of the Canadian prairies. Much of the material is based on an interview I had with Folmer Hansen many years ago.

Stay tuned. More pages are in the works on artists such as Paula Murray, Ann Mortimer, Susan Collett, Enid Legros-Wise, Connie Pike, Les Manning, Stan and Jean Clarke and many others. Anyone who has memories or images of these artists they would be willing to share please contact me.
