Comments:
The Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery is the only Canadian public gallery exclusively devoted to exhibiting, collecting and researching Canadian ceramics, glass and enamel on a national basis. With an extensive exhibition program, collection, and five galleries it is a national focus promoting artists and research in the media. The focus is on contemporary work. Since the gallery collects works from its exhibitions the gallery has an extensive collection from the mid 20th century to the present. The starting core or the collection was the Indusmin Collection. Research is also important and includes the Ann Roberts Archive Centre and the the Sinclair Family Research Library
The gallery opened in 1993, after an extensive planning process that started in 1981 by the unfortunately short-lived group, Ceramists Canada.
The CCGG hosts two particularly noteworthy annual award programs and events, the Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics and the RBC Award for Glass.
